Miss Erica Henderson

My name is Erica Henderson, and I am a senior at Burrell High School. I’ve been dancing at A Step Above Dance Academy for about 13 years. I began in recreational classes and eventually discovered my love for competing—this will be my seventh year as a competition dancer. Dance has always been a huge part of my life. Over the years, it’s taught me so much more than just steps and routines. It’s given me confidence, discipline, lasting friendships, and some of my favorite memories. ASADA has truly become a second home, and I’m incredibly grateful for the amazing teachers and teammates who have supported me and helped shape the person I am today. As I prepare to finish my time here, I hope I’ve been the kind of role model to younger dancers that others once were to me. I want to inspire them to believe in themselves and enjoy every step of the journey, because I know this is something I will always cherish. After high school, I plan to continue dancing, hopefully on a collegiate dance team, while pursuing a degree in Veterinary Science. To all the younger dancers: have confidence, work hard, enjoy every moment, and remember to dance for yourself!. Be proud of who you are, and never compare your path to someone else’s. Your journey is your own.

Miss Abby Weitzel

My name is Abby Weitzel and I’m a senior at Burrell High School. I’ve danced at ASADA since I was 3, and joined the competitive program as I entered middle school. During my time at the studio, I’ve always been pushed to be the best version of myself. I am forever thankful for the confidence dance instilled in me from such an early age. Outside of dance I am a member of my school’s drama club, where I not only perform, but work behind the scenes on every production. I’ve worked as an assistant scenic designer and charge artist, among much else, for a few years now. After high school I plan to further my training in technical theater by majoring in design & production; while continuing to perform on stage. My advice to younger dancers would be to find a way to incorporate dance into all aspects of your life, and to never shy away from new opportunities that may scare you.
